Black Farmhouse Sink: Review; why to buy one for your new kitchen

I am absolutely in love with my black Kohler Whitehaven Farmhouse kitchen sink and need to tell you why you will want one too! This post has affiliate links.

Last year was the first time I ever attempted any type of home renovation. My outdated kitchen was in dire need of a makeover and I wanted that open kitchen / living area space with an island to optimize the fabulous outdoor water views from my front deck.

Trending colors of black and white are perfect for kitchens and seem to be classic that will not go out of style next year.

My old kitchen had the beige or “bisque” colored appliances and kitchen sink. The brown tiled floor, Formica countertops and dated beige cabinets that kept falling off the hinges; left much to be desired.

Looking at photos of kitchen makeovers the sturdy farmhouse sink was a classic addition to most remodels. The farmhouse sink is not only durable and resistant to staining, but beautiful in construction.

I chose the Kohler K-6487-7 Whitehaven Farmhouse Self-Trimming Apron Front Single Basin Kitchen Sink with Tall Apron in black.

KOHLER cast iron kitchen sinks are so durable, they are guaranteed not to chip, crack or burn. Not only are they heat resistant, but I have had mine for a year now and I can assure you it is stain resistant and super easy to clean.

When the plumber was installing my sink last year, he shook his head and said I was not going to like a black sink. It would show all the dirt. I think he may have confused the sink for a black car in winter in New York. The shiny smooth, nonporous surface makes this sink exceptionally resistant to food-based stains and easy to clean with just a soft sponge.

Recently I have been trying to make more of an effort to be proactive in helping the environment. My husband is the recycling Nazi and insists if it can be recycled, we will do it. As I clear out stuff I no longer need, I am donating or selling what I can and trying hard not to toss excess into landfills.

Kohler is an American company right here in Wisconsin and believes that making environmentally responsible choices is just as important as inspired design and innovative technology. Their sinks are crafted in Kohler, Wisconsin, using 80% recycled or reclaimed content.

I don’t really have anything negative to report regarding my sink but I should warn you that farmhouse sinks are very heavy. You may need to hire a professional contractor to do the work. The sink will need to be fortified by building supports to the cabinet. The sink when filled with water could weigh up to 300 pounds. In addition, you will need to cut the cabinet to fit the apron of your sink. In my case, definitely better left to the professionals.

I’m so happy with the look of my kitchen with the black Kohler farmhouse sink. I purchased white Thomasville cabinets, a quartz countertop and black matte GE appliances which really helped to showcase the beautiful sink.

It’s been a year of little entertaining due to COVID-19 but the few people who have visited have exclaimed how great the sink looks. Last week we even invited a realtor in to give us an estimate on the possible listing of my house. She loved all the improvements and gushed over the look of the black farmhouse sink.

If you want one, you can order one from AMAZON right below. They come in other colors, but I really love the black one. Happy home renovating!!

The Kohler black farmhouse sink is a beautiful unique addition to a newly renovated kitchen.
